Nairobi Expressway toll charges increased

Under the revised rates, the minimum toll fee for utilizing the 27km long Expressway is now Sh170, compared to the previous fee of Sh120.
The government has increased the toll rates for motorists using the Nairobi Expressway.
The toll charges for the journey from Westlands to Mlolongo have risen from Sh360 to Sh500.

Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen officially approved the new rates through a special Gazette notice dated December 19, 2023, attributing the adjustment to the depreciating Shilling against the United States Dollar.
The notice specified, "In exercise of the powers conferred by section 4B (3) of the Public Roads Tolls Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport approves the toll rates for the Nairobi Expressway as set out in the Schedule hereto."
Under the revised rates, the minimum toll for utilising the 27km long Expressway is now Sh170, compared to the previous fee of Sh120. Murkomen clarified that these new rates are subject to future adjustments based on the prevailing exchange rate and changes in the Consumer Price Index (CPI).
The Nairobi Expressway, with a cost of Sh88 billion, encompasses 10 exits at Mlolongo, Standard Gauge Railway, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Eastern Bypass, Southern Bypass, Capital Centre, Haile Selassie Avenue, Museum Hill and Westlands.
The adjusted toll charges for specific routes include Westlands to JKIA and Eastern Bypass at Sh420, Westlands to Southern Bypass at Sh330, Westlands to Haile Selassie and Capital Centre at Sh250, and Westlands to Museum Hill at Sh170.
Additionally, the rates for Museum Hill to Mlolongo exit are set at Sh500, Museum Hill to Syokimau at Sh410, Museum Hill to JKIA and Eastern Bypass at Sh330, Museum Hill to Southern Bypass at Sh250, and Museum Hill to Haile Selassie and Capital Hill exit at Sh170.
